The Town of Cortlandt, New York is located in the northwestern corner of Westchester County. Cortlandt includes two incorporated villages, Croton-on-Hudson and Buchanan and several hamlets including Montrose, Crugers and Verplanck. Cortlandt consists of an area of about 34 square miles and has an estimated population of 30,000. Approxi¬mately 2,100 acres is public parkland. Residents can enjoy fun and relaxing activities year round at thirty-three different parks and recreation facilities throughout the Town. The Cortlandt Dog Park opened November 2, 2008. Community character ranges from suburban to semi-rural. Rugged terrain, large public water reservoirs, and heavily wooded areas characterize the area. The major employers in the Town are mostly institutions, such as school districts, Town Government, the Hudson Valley Hospital, and the FDR Veterans Administration Hospital. The exception of this is the Cortlandt Town Center Shopping Center on Route 6, the largest employer in the Town. Several highly rated school districts serve the town along with a number of preschools as well.
Most of the Town's land is zoned for residential or open space while less than ten percent is zoned commercial or industrial. You can find a wide range of housing in Cortlandt. There are smaller, somewhat inexpensive, older converted cottages to multi-million dollar estates. There are several condominium complexes for those who choose that lifestyle. Commuters have easy access to the tri-state area via the Taconic and Palisades Parkways. Metro North also has train stations in both Cortlandt Manor and Croton on Hudson. Cortlandt and the surrounding areas offer vacation homes, farms, equine facilities, and country estate properties. The diversity of real estate opportunities in Cortlandt makes it a great location for anyone.
